Inpatient Surgery Instructions

At OrthoMaryland, we do our best to ensure that preparing for your surgery is a smooth and pleasant process. An OrthoMaryland surgical scheduling staff member will guide you through the entire process. You will be contacted to discuss your procedure, the date, time and location. At this time you will finalize and confirm your surgery date and time.

Pre-Operative Testing

  1. Your surgical procedure may require pre-operative tests, which should be conducted by your primary care physician. If so, the surgical scheduling staff will explain which tests are needed and the time-frame in which you should complete them.
  2. If you do not have a primary care physician, but still require pre-operative testing, our office will suggest locations where you can schedule and complete those tests.

Equipment & Supplies:
You may need specific equipment or supplies following your surgical procedure. These items include, but are not limited to slings, crutches, walkers, and compression stockings. The surgical scheduling staff at OrthoMaryland will instruct you in the required items, how to obtain them, and where to pick them up. These items should be in your possession prior to the day of your surgery. Please arrange to bring the necessary items with you at the time of your surgery.

Anesthesia:
If your procedure requires anesthesia—whether general or spinal injections (including those in your neck or back), someone must drive you home from the procedure. If you have not arranged transportation on the day of your surgery, it will be cancelled.

Further Information:
You can expect to receive information regarding your surgery in the mail. It is very important that you review all materials included in this packet. If after doing so, you have questions or concerns; please call your OrthoMaryland surgical scheduler for explanation. It is our goal to assist you in every step of this process.

If your surgery requires more detailed information, it will be discussed at the time of scheduling.
