Arthritis Care from the Comprehensive Arthritis Institute, an OrthoMaryland Center of Excellence
At OrthoMaryland, we provide specialized arthritis care through the Comprehensive Arthritis Institute, one of our Centers of Excellence. Our goal is to maintain joint function and minimize pain with the most innovative care and treatments from our skilled, knowledgeable physicians.
What is Arthritis?
There are more than 100 different types of arthritis affecting millions of Americans nationwide, but it is primarily thought of as an orthopaedic disease brought on by aging. In truth, however, arthritis affects people of all ages, children included. While its cause is not completely understood, we know arthritis can come from not only age, but also disease or injury. Arthritis wears away joint cartilage, the natural shock absorber and lubricant between joint surfaces.
Comprehensive Arthritis Care, Conservative Treatment
OrthoMaryland’s team approach to diagnose and treat arthritis offers the best outcomes for our orthopaedic patients. Our team includes physicians with the highest levels of training from the nation’s top academic centers for arthritis care. Their individualized treatment plans may include medications, physical therapy, specialized injections and more, with surgery as a last resort only.
The Comprehensive Arthritis Institute provides medications, physical therapy or, if necessary, injections for early stages of arthritis. Our physicians have extensive training in advanced techniques for restoring cartilage in joints. One of the innovative treatments we offer is synovial fluid supplementation, a relatively new treatment for arthritis of the knee. In addition, we perform leading-edge orthopaedic surgical procedures, some of which are minimally invasive, that can delay joint replacement for many years.
Considering Joint Replacement?
If joint replacement does become your best option for relieving arthritis symptoms, you can have confidence in OrthoMaryland. According to statistics, over 90 percent of all patients who receive joint replacements experience relief from their conditions once they have completely healed. Our joint replacement expertise includes the latest minimally invasive orthopaedic techniques. (For more information about joint replacement by OrthoMaryland physicians, click here.)
